Locking

Locking is an improvisational dance form created by Don Campbell put to a specific rhythm and style in the nightclubs of Los Angeles in the early 1970s. Don Campbell was inspired by Charles ‘Robot’ Washington who, in the late 1960s, experimented with robotic moves at the club to soul and funk music. This street dance style started as Campbellocking, and eventually became known as locking. Other influential locking dance icons include Damita Jo Freeman, The Toota Woota Sisters and co, Toni 'Mickey' Basil, Tony 'Go Go', Shabba-Doo and Scoo B Doo
